Population Pyramid - Chapter 3 Geography NCERT Class 12 UPSC

According to United Nations estimates, the world population will increase to 11.2 billion in the year 2100. This is greater than the entire previous history of humanity. For any country, keeping a track of its population growth is an essential requirement. Population is comprised of age and sex structure and by monitoring this data any nation's government can tackle problems related to unemployment, infrastructure, demand, supply etc, which in turn will expand nation's GDP and boost rapid economic development.

What do we mean by Age-Sex Pyramid?
It simply refers to the number of females and males in different age groups. Good amount of information about the population is broken down by age and sex and it can be read from a population pyramid.

Now it also tells us how a population changes over time. By that, i mean whats the birth rate, death rate and life expectancy of people in a country. So here is a picture of India’s population pyramid and i will outline few information that will make you understand the whole age-sex pyramid / population pyramid concept better.
